Given all the struggles the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently having, their need for Isaiah Thomas to run the point guard spot for them appears to be a necessity at this point. Not to discount what Derrick Rose and even LeBron James have both done so far, but having Thomas will certainly give them an extra weapon in their lineup.
While many believe that he will make his debut for the Cavs in around seven weeks time, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin recently said he expects Isaiah Thomas to be activated much earlier than that. He even explained what he saw in him during practice sessions, making him say his bold claim.
“I watched IT work out Sunday before the Hawks game. Full lather, good 30-40 minutes, sprinting up and down the court, dribbling drills, 3-pointers all over the 3-point arc, and that guy, there’s no way that’s going to take seven more weeks.”
Through 10 games, the Cavs could only muster four wins, and are still looking to find their groove. A lot of questions have already emerged following their slow start, and Thomas’ return could help answer some of them to make winning easier in their future games.
The All-Star point guard is expected to provide the Cavs with offensive firepower and his playoff experience will also come in handy for head coach Tyronn Lue. Known to be a fierce competitor, Isaiah Thomas’ presence could turn out to be a difference-maker for the Cavs to turn around their fortunes this season.
McMenamin’s comments are definitely good news for the Northeast Ohio faithful, as it appears that it’s only a matter of time now before Thomas finally plays for the Wine and Gold.
