Cleveland Cavs All-Star Donovan Mitchell revealed his short-term goal of reaching the NBA Cup Championship ahead of facing the Philadelphia 76ers. Looking to bounce back from their two-game skid to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Cavs will host the 76ers on Friday. It’s a big test for Cleveland, considering the 8-1 Sixers have the best record in the NBA.

Mitchell shouted out Cavs fans before his first NBA Cup matchup of the regular season.

“Cup game, first one of the season,” Mitchell said. “Trying to get to Indy. That’s the goal. But it starts tonight.”

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 27 points on 10-for-17 shooting, including five threes, six assists, three rebounds, and one steal against the Thunder on Wednesday. James Harden finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and one steal. And Jarrett Allen, who’s listed as questionable for Friday’s NBA Cup showdown, exited the game in the first half with a right knee contusion.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s seventh consecutive 30+ point game against the Cavs tied Hall of Fame forward Tracy McGrady’s streak, which ran from 2003 to 2006, for the longest such run in fanchise history. Gilgeous-Alexander followed up a 43-point game on Monday to help Oklahoma City beat Cleveland twice in two days.

The Cavs’ NBA Cup matchup against the 76ers is the first of a back-to-back at Rocket Arena. They’ll be hosting the defending champion New York Knicks on Saturday. Two ideal early-season tests for the Cavs (3-3), looking for their fifth win of the young regular season.
