Donovan Mitchell is clearly one of the best rookies in the NBA. Currently, Mitchell is averaging 19.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists for the Utah Jazz. Selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 13th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Mitchell was quickly traded to the Jazz, where he has transformed into the franchise’s unlikely franchise player and Rookie of the Year candidate. It appears that the sky is the limit for the young shooting guard as he develops into a superstar.
In recent news, LeBron James can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines the player option on his contract. This scenario is all too familiar for many basketball fans that have watched James leave the Cavaliers in 2010 in his infamous “The Decision” special. According to Andy Larsen of Salt City Hoops, Mitchell had an interested story on where he was during the event in 2010.
Just talked to Donovan Mitchell… didn’t know until today that he was at the Greenwich CT Boys and Girls Club for LeBron’s Decision. He was outside the building, said a frustrated Knicks fan threw a Snapple bottle that nearly hit him in the head.
Around the time of James’ departure to the Heat, Mitchell would have been 13 years old. James’ decision to leave the Cavaliers was one of the most famous events in NBA history. Surprisingly, eight years later, James has won three NBA titles and is focused to win yet another championship. Mitchell is now beginning his own NBA career, determined to do what it takes to propel the Jazz into the Western Conference’s elite and hopefully win a championship along the way.
