The Cleveland Cavaliers finally won a game on Sunday after dropping two straight contests. This was thanks in large part to another dominant display from Cavs superstar Donovan Mitchell, who dropped another 40-piece all over an Indiana Pacers side that did not have the services of Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner on the evening.
Mitchell was on one tonight (again), and this just so happened to be his 12th 40-point outing for the Cavs this season. To further highlight just how amazing that is, note that not even the great LeBron James could reach the same heights:
LeBron is without a doubt the greatest player in Cavs franchise history. The fact that he owns four out of the five spots on the esteemed list above is a clear testament to this fact. However, now that Donovan Mitchell is sitting at the very top of the record books, it speaks volumes of the great things the four-time All-Star is doing for Cleveland this season.
To make it even more mind-blowing, this was actually Mitchell’s third consecutive 40-point performance. To say that he’s on a bit of a hot streak right now would be a complete understatement:
More importantly, however, Mitchell led the Cavs to a 115-105 win over the Pacers on Sunday behind 40 points on 14-of-25 shooting, six rebounds, an assist, three steals, and three triples in 40 minutes of action. This was an important victory for Cleveland, who are looking to fend off the New York Knicks for the No. 4 spot in the East. Home-court advantage in the playoffs is now the Cavs’ to lose in their last few remaining games, and they clearly have Donovan Mitchell to thank for that.
