Another game, another stellar performance from Donovan Mitchell. The Cleveland Cavaliers guard extended his hot scoring streak by torching the Orlando Magic Tuesday night for 43 points in a 117-113 victory on the road.
With that explosive showing against the Magic, Donovan Mitchell became just the first player since James Harden in the 2018-19 NBA season to score 40 points in four games in a row. Mitchell also lands himself in the exclusive company of Harden, Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant, and Allen Iverson as the only players in the last 30 seasons to pull off such a feat, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Donovan Mitchell shot 15-for-23 from the field and hit five 3-pointers while also going 8-for-9 from the free-throw line versus the Magic, who had no idea how to slow him down. The good news for the Magic is that they weren’t the first team to get embarrassed of late by Mitchell, who, since last week blasted the Atlanta Hawks for 44 points, the New York Knicks by 42 points, and the Indiana Pacers by 40 points.
Mitchell poured in a total of 12 points in the fourth quarter of the Magic game to help the Cavaliers score their 50th win of the season. Also, with that victory, Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs have guaranteed themselves a home-court advantage in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
With the form he is in, don’t be surprised to see Donovan Mitchell come up with yet another 40-point night this coming Thursday against the same Orlando squad that he just skewered.
