The Cleveland Cavaliers hot start to the 2024-25 season hit a minor roadblock following their loss to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. But the team regrouped with a win against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. During the Cavs game against the Pelicans, Donovan Mitchell reached a new career milestone.

Donovan Mitchell reached the 12,000 career points milestone during the Cavs’ game on Wednesday, as per NBA TV. He reached that mark early in the first quarter against the Pelicans with a step back three-point shot.

Mitchell has been one of the driving forces behind the Cavs’ 16-1 start to the season. Against the Pelicans, he finished with ten points, two rebounds and two assists while shooting 4-0f-10 from the field.

Through the Cavs’ first 15 games of the season, Mitchell has been averaging 25.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals with splits of 46.7 percent shooting from the field, 40.9 percent shooting from the three-point line and 84.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Last season, the Cavs finished with a top four record in the Eastern Conference standings. They defeated the Orlando Magic in seven games in the first round of the playoffs before falling to the Boston Celtics in five games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Mitchell was unable to finish out the series against the Celtics due to injury. But in the games he was able to play, he averaged 29.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 47.6 percent shooting from the field, 35.4 percent shooting from the three-point line and 81.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Mitchell joined the Cavs during an offseason trade ahead of the 2022-23 season that sent Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji and five draft picks to the Utah Jazz.

The former Louisville star has been named to five consecutive NBA All-Star teams. He was the No. 13 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Jazz.
