The Cleveland Cavaliers are rising up the NBA rankings after an undefeated first week of action, led by continued excellence from Donovan Mitchell and noticeable improvement from point guard Darius Garland. The Cavs most recently picked up a win on the road against the New York Knicks, a team that has tortured them over the last couple of years dating back to the 2023 playoff series between the two teams, which the Knicks won in five games.
Despite being busy on the court, Mitchell is also making time to give back to his community, and recently proved as much by opening up the Donovan Mitchell Family Athletic Center at the Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, Connecticut, per Jessica Simms of Greenwich Time. Mitchell graduated from the school in 2012, and the new athletic center is nicknamed the DON, which stands for Determination over Negativity.
Mitchell made an appearance at the opening of the center and even took the first shot.
“I am forever grateful to everyone, especially my teachers, coaches and family who helped me get to where I am,” said Mitchell. “From day one, before basketball was the plan, everyone in this community was always checking up on me. They told me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear, and helped me to continually improve. They did it for no reason other than they cared about me.”
