The Cleveland Cavaliers are your 2023 Summer League champs, with the Isaiah Mobley-led squad beating the Houston Rockets in the finale. Naturally, Donovan Mitchell was absolutely hyped up for the young squad.
On Twitter, Mitchell was at a loss for words following the Cavs’ 99-78 win over the Rockets. He could only tweet several double exclamation mark emojis, signifying how ecstatic he is for the victory.
Donovan Mitchell watched the Cavs’ performance throughout the whole Summer League, often reacting to games and even giving credit to players after every win. Sure enough, they didn’t disappoint.
Mobley and rookie Emoni Bates were particularly impressive, with the former even erupting for 28 points on 12-of-20 shooting along with 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in 27 minutes of action. He’s the first Cavs player to have a 25-point, 10-rebound game in the Summer League since Ante Zizic in 2018. Obviously, Mobley was rightly rewarded for it with the Championship Game MVP honor.
“I try to not worry about stuff I can’t control. Do I agree with it? No, but it is what it is. I’ll take the championship over it all day,” Mobley said after the win.
It’s definitely a fruitful tournament for the Cavs. Not only did Mobley get some invaluable experience that could help him land a regular contract with the team soon, but Cleveland only showed they got the steal of the draft in Bates. The Eastern Michigan standout was the 49th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.
It remains to be seen what’s next for the Cavs, though there’s definitely plenty of optimism surrounding the team now.
