Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Donovan Mitchell is an avid New York Mets fan following Juan Soto’s free-agency decision slowly unfolding through MLB rumors and opinions. The New York native isn’t shy about his fandom. During baseball season, Mitchell posted about the Mets on social media over the summer. He’s also likely hoping Soto will ultimately sign with his favorite team.
With optimism surrounding the Mets’ chances of signing with the Mets, Mitchell posted about the popular MLB free agent on his X, formerly Twitter.
“This Soto stuff is getting outta hand… no way that’s real,” Mitchell posted.
Yankees outfielder Juan Soto was linked to the Boston Red Sox before the Mets entered the campaign during the MLB offseason. Cavs star Donovan Mitchell and the rest of us will soon find out where Soto decides to continue his impressive career.
Donovan Mitchell asks savage Celtics’ three-point shooting question
Cleveland Cavs All-Star Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland dodged significant injury scares after beating the champion Boston Celtics 115-111. In a game where the Cavs matched the Celtics’ 17 made threes while shooting at a higher percentage (47.2/34.7), Cleveland improved to 17-0 when it shot above 35% per contest. Four days removed from Mitchell’s 35-point performance, he had an interesting follow-up question for a reporter in his press conference.
The Cavs are 17-0 when they shoot over 35% from three and 3-3 when they don’t. Are they overly reliant on the three-ball? Or perhaps it’s the beginning of a new three-point shooting juggernaut in the making, per SB Nation.
“Would you ask Boston that question?” Donovan Mitchell asked. “I’m not trying to be an a****** at all when I say that.”
Mitchell’s question triggered a response in written form, per SB Nation’s Jackson Flickinger.
“I said no. It’s impossible to question the Boston Celtics’s formula,” Flickinger said. “But it’s fair to wonder if the Cavs are capable of following that blueprint, especially after poor outside shooting did them in during the last two postseasons, as they went 31.5% and 30.6% from three.
“At the same time, they have no choice but to try playing that style,” he concluded.
The Cavs are shooting at a 40.5% clip and lead the NBA in three-point percentage this season. While the Celtics lead in a couple of three-point shooting statistical categories, including three-pointers made (19.1) and three-pointers attempted (51.0), the Cavs have morphed into one of the better three-point shooting teams in the NBA.
They also have the best regular-season record (20-3) and are 7-3 in their last ten games.
