Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers had one of the most impressive NBA season runs this year. While there’s still more than a month until the 2026-27 NBA season kicks off, it is NCAA football that is keeping Mitchell hooked these days.
Michigan football pulled off a controversial win against Western Michigan in the 2026 regular season opener. Soon after the game was over, Mitchell shared his disgust on social media.
“The clock was at 0 dawg!!” the Cavs shooting guard tweeted.
Western Michigan appeared to have pulled off a huge upset after taking a 12-7 lead into the final seconds. When Michigan’s last pass fell incomplete, the Broncos rushed onto the field to celebrate what they thought was a historic win, only to learn the game wasn’t over yet.
After reviewing the replay, officials determined that one second remained on the clock. That gave Michigan one final chance, and quarterback Bryce Underwood made it count. He launched a desperation pass into the end zone, where it was caught for a 47-yard Hail Mary touchdown.
The score gave Michigan a stunning 13-12 victory and turned what looked like a Western Michigan celebration into heartbreak.
While in the midst of an exciting NBA offseason, Mitchell is enjoying college football games after coming off an elite regular-season campaign. He averaged 27.9 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds during the 70 games he played last season.
This performance earned him the NBA All-Star nod for the seventh consecutive season in his basketball career. With the NBA regular season starting on Tuesday, October 20, the Cavs will play the Philadelphia 76ers on October 22 to open their season.
