While Darius Garland was ruled out for the Cavs’ Game 1 against the Indiana Pacers, he is still trying to play. However, this injury is quite significant, as Garland sprained his big toe.
According to Jared Greenberg, he said that the injury would sideline him during the regular season for one to two weeks.
That’s an alarming sign for the Cavs, considering Garland is one of their top guards. His 3-point shooting and playmaking are essential for the offense.
While Donovan Mitchell can pick up the slack, Garland’s impact transcends what is on the court. His leadership has been a major factor as well.
Facing a gritty Pacers team will not make matters any easier. They eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks in five games and showed their dominance.
However, the Cavs were the Eastern Conference’s best team, so Indiana will have its hands full.
Darius Garland makes the difference for the Cavs
Again, Garland’s impact is essential on the floor. He is the conductor. Although his game isn’t flashy like Mitchell’s, he runs the offense at a high level.
Not to mention, the Cavs have one of the top offenses in terms of points and offensive rating. Unfortunately for them, the Pacers are in a similar category.
However, the Cavs can move around Garland with guys like Ty Jerome off the bench. He’s been a contributing factor as a point guard. His size, defense, and improved shooting can fill the void nicely.
It won’t replicate Garland’s production, but it’s the best thing Cleveland has in the meantime.
At the end of the day, this series will be too close for the Cavs’ comfort. There’s no specific timetable for Garland’s return. Considering this is the playoffs, Garland could return sooner rather than later.
If that’s the case, then the point guard will be instrumental in how far the team will go against the Pacers.
