Darius Garland and the Cleveland Cavaliers are likely not going to the playoffs this season. They’re bound to be eliminated soon, as they’re five games behind 10th place with just 13 games left on the schedule. However, the Cavs should be excited about their future, as they have a plethora of young players that have the potential to become stars in the NBA.
One of those players is Darius Garland, who has been expanding his game over the course of this year. He recently broke a franchise record of being the fastest to score 200 three-pointers. According to John Kuntz, the Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff wants Garland to take even more three-point attempts. Bickerstaff lets it be known what he wants from Garland going forward.
“To be honest with you, I’d be happy to get between eight to 10 of them a night,” Bickerstaff said. “I think he’s got the ball in his hands enough. But it’s again, breaking a comfort level. He is a heady, solid basketball player. And sometimes, shooting that many 3s feels like a lot.”
Shooting eight to 10 three-point shots per game would put Garland in contention with Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard. The idea makes sense, as the Cavs’ point guard is incredibly consistent beyond the arch. Bumping up his attempts should help improve the Cavalier’s scoring as a whole, as it would increase the chances to score more points.
With not much time left in the year, this is likely going to be something Garland and Cavs work on over the offseason. Darius Garland is a rising star, but if he can lock in his three-point shooting, he could become a superstar sooner, rather than later.
