The Cleveland Cavaliers are sitting pretty with 21 games left in the season, currently occupying fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 38-23 record. But, this Cavs roster doesn’t have a whole lot of playoff experience outside of superstar Donovan Mitchell and newcomer Danny Green, who gives them shooting and brings a championship pedigree to the table.
On Thursday, Green spoke to the media and revealed what he’s been telling the team ahead of a hopeful deep run in the postseason.
“Hostile environments. Every play, every possession is going to be intense. You’ve got to embrace it, lose yourself in the moment, lose yourself in the game. At the same time, be on your P’s and Q’s, execute the best you can and doing your job. Not letting yourself down, your teammates down. We’re going to expect the most out of each other. Just making sure that everybody can embrace the moment and be ready for a hostile environment.”
The Cavs haven’t been in the playoffs since LeBron James left town. They made the play-in tournament last season but lost to the Atlanta Hawks. However, with Spida now starring on a nightly basis and a phenomenal supporting cast consisting of Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and others, the sky is the limit for Cleveland.
As Green pointed out though, postseason basketball is a whole different animal. They’re going to come up against teams in the East who have been here before, like the Bucks, Celtics, and 76ers. With just over 20 contests remaining in the regular season, this is the time to buckle down and prepare for those hostile environments.
