Cleveland Cavaliers second-year point guard Collin Sexton shot an impressive 40.2 percent from beyond the arc during his rookie season, but the Cavs’ floor general is struggling from deep this season.
Through 33 games, Sexton is shooting just 27.3 percent from the 3-point line. However, the 20-year-old isn’t worried about his shot moving forward:
“I’m not concerned about nothing,” Sexton said, via Chris Fedor of cleveland.com. “I know what I can do. No worries. I just need to see one go through the net. I’m going to try to hit one or two and get it back going.”
During the month of December, Sexton shot just 3-of-27 from 3. The Cavs, who are only 10-23 on the season, would like to see their young point guard get off to a good start from beyond the arc in January.
Sexton is averaging 18.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Cavs. He’s shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line, so at least his field goal and free-throw percentages are sound.
In the second post-LeBron James era, the Cavs are building around Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Cedi Osman, Kevin Porter Jr. and Larry Nance Jr. Most pundits expect the Cavs to eventually trade All-Star power forward Kevin Love, and maybe Tristan Thompson as well.
