Cleveland Cavaliers rookie point guard Collin Sexton may have attended college at the University of Alabama, but he calls the state of Georgia home.
The Marietta, Ga. native was in Atlanta to take on the Hawks on Saturday night, and he had a whole contingent of his fan club at the game:
Unfortunately for Sexton, the Cavs were not able to get the win, falling in a narrow 111-108 defeat, but he did have a solid performance, finishing with 18 points, six assists and three rebounds while going 6-of-15 from the floor.
On the year, Sexton is averaging 14.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists over 29.7 minutes per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the floor, 36.1 percent from 3-point range and 86.6 percent from the free-throw line.
The 19-year-old was selected by Cleveland with the eighth overall pick of the NBA Draft last June, with the Cavs utilizing the Brooklyn Nets pick they received in the Kyrie Irving trade with the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2017.
After starting out the month of December on fire, it has been a rough past couple of weeks for exton, but his outing against the Hawks was probably his strongest performance in quite some time.
As for the Cavs? Well, let’s just say they are playing for that draft pick.
Cleveland has lost six straight games to fall to 8-29, good for the worst record in the NBA. What’s worse is that outside of Collin Sexton, the Cavs don’t really have much significant young talent to develop, meaning it could be a long few years in Ohio.
