Cleveland Cavs guard Collin Sexton’s 42-point outburst against Brooklyn Nets stars Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving is now the most viewed game on NBA League Pass.
As reported by Sam Amico of Forty Eight Minutes, the Cavs’ victory over the powerhouse Nets now has the crown for most viewers on NBA League Pass.
“No game on NBA League Pass this season has been viewed as much as the Cleveland Cavs’ double-overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, according to a league release.”
The game marked the debut of the Nets superstar trio. It was Irving’s first game back after an extended absence due to a mix of personal reasons and per the league’s health and safety mandate. NBA fans definitely wanted to see how these three superstars will co-exist. It also helped that the likes of ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV did not televise the game.
While some fans expected the Nets to pounce on the Cavs, the game featured an outburst from third-year man Collin Sexton. The Young Bull dropped 42 points in the double-overtime win. This included a 3-pointer right in front of Irving’s face which sent the game to a second overtime. His streak did not stop there as he made a couple more 3-pointers in the second OT to eventually seal the victory.
It only goes to show how anything can happen in the NBA. Just several months ago, the Harden-to-Brooklyn narrative was a mere rumor. Now it has turned into a reality. In addition, no one expected the Cavs to have that type of firepower. But on Thursday night, they impressed the basketball world with their superb play.
The Cavs have surprised the NBA by not getting blasted out of the gate. Hovering near .500, Cleveland has shown a measure of staying power few people expected in the early stages of this pandemic season. We will see if Collin Sexton can continue to carry this team on his back. Thursday, he did.
