The Cleveland Cavaliers are yet to show any interest in pursuing Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe, but if they were to do so, they’d be fighting an uphill battle, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
The Suns are looking for young players in exchange for their prized all-around point guard, but the Cavs just don’t have any young players Phoenix would be interested in, rendering the only options to be forward Iman Shumpert and a future first-round pick, which they will likely not bend for.
Phoenix will want the Brooklyn Nets’ first-round pick for starters, as the very base of any negotiation for Bledsoe — the one asset this brand new Cleveland front office looked to get out of the deal for Kyrie Irving and one they will be ultimately hesitant to let go.
To put it simply, the Cavs will have to put all their cards on the table if they want Bledsoe, and that starts with their joker — the Nets pick.
Cleveland would also have to deal with the impending return of Isaiah Thomas and an unhappy Derrick Rose; that unless traded, would want out right away if slated as the third point guard.
Bledsoe is 6-foot-1 and simply at a size disadvantage to play out of position, making Cleveland’s options not only slim, but almost farfetched to acquire the 27-year-old.
