Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love had himself a bit of a meltdown on Monday night against the Toronto Raptors. Love apologized to the Cavs for his āunacceptableā actions after the game, and now the franchise must decide if there will be any punishment at all.
Cleveland is handling the matter internally, according to Yahoo Sportsā Chris Haynes, and the team is apparently āfocused on turning the pageā after Loveās apology.
The 32-year-old let his emotions get the best of him in the third quarter of Mondayās loss to Toronto. After giving up a bucket, Love slapped the ball in frustration. When an official passed the ball back to Love, he just slapped the ball on the ground and basically gave up on the play, resulting in a turnover and a Raptors 3-pointer:
Cleveland only trailed by four points before this whole Kevin Love debacle but wound up getting blown out, 112-96.
Everybody was pretty dumbfounded after the game, including head coach J.B. Bickerstaff. It seems the Cavs are going to try to just move past this, but there should probably be at least a fine for Love, if not something more.
Cleveland briefly threatened to crash the play-in party not long ago, but a recent slide has them back at 21-40 on the season and out of contention.
It has been a rough season for Kevin Love, who has missed a lot of time due to injuries. He was also frustrated last season as the Cavs struggled again in the post-LeBron James era, and itās clear heās not enjoying losing all these games as part of a rebuild. He did sign a massive extension after LeBron left, though, and itās going to remain hard to find a trade because of his decline on the court and injury history.
