With just hours remaining until this season’s trade deadline (Feb. 8 at 3:00 p.m. EST), the Cleveland Cavaliers and LA Clippers are still engaged in trade talks revolving around DeAndre Jordan, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Jordan, now 29 years of age, is a force to be reckoned with in the paint. In his 47 games played for the Clippers this season, the former Texas A&M University stand-out has turned in averages of 11.5 points on 65.3 percent shooting from the field, 14.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
Who (or what) the Cavs are offering in this deal remains to be seen. Some experts and analysts believe they’re willing to part with their coveted first round pick from the Brooklyn Nets, but only for a proper return. Certain players on the Cavs’ roster have heard their names tossed around in trade scenarios in recent days as well, but so far, nothing has come to fruition.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Jordan is the Cavs’ No. 1 target with regards to players they’d like to acquire. It has also been reported that the Cavs would be willing to let go of Tristan Thompson in the event of a trade for Jordan. Cleveland has one trade exception at their disposal as well, which is worth just over $5 million.
“They are going to be aggressive,” Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports said earlier this week. “They are looking at guys like Derrick Favors. DeAndre Jordan is their No. 1 target. If they can somehow convince the Clippers to take on one of their bad contracts, whether it is J.R. Smith or Tristan Thompson, and give their own first, they would jump on that.
“But those scenarios just aren’t in play right now.”
Jordan will likely become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, which means the Cavs could be looking at a one-year deal.
Let’s see if the Cavs, now the third-ranked team in the Eastern Conference standings with a 31-22 overall record, pull the proverbial trigger on a move for Jordan. Be sure to keep your browsers locked on Cavs Nation for more updates on this topic as they become available.
