The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed forward Jacorey Williams, according to Keith Smith of ‘NBA Front Office’. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed. The deal may serve only as a temporary, as the Cavs will observe all options on the playing field as the season nears.
Williams was enlisted on the Cavs training camp for a short period of time before the front office waived him in order to make room for newly acquired guard Dwayne Wade. Afterwards, he went to play for the Canton Charge of the NBA G-League, where he averaged 15.4 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game.
He played his first three college seasons at Arkansas before transferring to Middle Tennessee State for his final year. While there he improved his draft stock by putting up 17.3 points per game along with 7.3 rebounds per game, which earned him the honor of USA Conference Player of the Year for 2016-17.
It’s not completely known in its entirety yet if Jacorey Williams will make the final roster before the start of the season, as the Cavs may just be testing his strides made over the last year to see if its worth the conversation of cementing the young piece to final roster.
The roster currently stands at 20 players, the max that they can posses going into training camp. Coming in at the forward position, he’ll look to compete for minimum minutes behind key rotation players such as Larry Nance Jr., Sam Dekker, Ante Zizic, and Channing Frye, all of whom have solidified spots as camp approaches.
