Cameron Payne has impressed the Cavs in a relatively short period of time. As a result, the 24-year-old point guard has earned a second 10-day contract, according to an official press release from the team.
Payne signed his first 10-day deal with the Cavs on January 6th. He’s played in four games since, posting averages of 8.8 points on .500 shooting from the field and 2.8 assists in 17.7 minutes per outing.
Prior to signing with the Cavs, Payne was with the Chicago Bulls. In his 31 appearances with the Bulls (12 starts), the Memphis native turned in averages of 5.7 points and 2.7 assists in 17.3 minutes per game.
In the second game of his first 10-day deal with the Cavs — a dreadful loss to the New Orleans Pelicans — Payne racked up 16 points with two assists and three 3-pointers in 22 minutes.
The fact that Cleveland is offering Payne a second 10-day contract should come as no surprise, as they are a team that is admittedly looking for talented young players to build around. His first contract expired earlier today, so the Cavs were quick to offer him a second.
The Cavs snapped a 12-game losing streak with their 101-95 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. They’ll look to keep their momentum rolling on Wednesday night, as their scheduled to face the Portland Trail Blazers. Tip-off inside the Moda Center is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.
