The Dallas Mavericks have dominated the headlines today as they made a blockbuster trade, sending Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. That has led them to be dominated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first half of their game. The Cavs were clicking on all cylinders and ended up with over 90 points going into halftime.
“The 85 points by Cleveland sets a franchise record for points in a half. There’s 2 minutes left in the first half,” Cavs reporter Bob Finan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Darius Garland led the way for the Cavs with 17 points and seven assists, while Evan Mobley went into halftime with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Merrill was also hot, scoring 12 points and going 4-for-4 from three. The Cavs went into halftime with a 91-46 lead, and the Mavericks will have a lot of catching up to do if they want to win the game.
The Cavs have shown all season that these are the type of things that they’re capable of when they’re locked in, and opposing teams have a lot to worry about when they’re in the zone.
The Cavs were awarded for their strong play so far this season, having Garland, Mobley, and Donovan Mitchell selected as All-Stars. After being selected, Garland shared his thoughts on the accomplishment.
“I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m glad it happened. It means a lot to me. This time last year, I wasn’t even talking,” Garland said. “I wasn’t eating. Just to be here, I’m super blessed. It means a lot to me and the team. I mean, this is a team award. Had a great start. A 15-0 start. Now, we’re here. Now, we’re All-Stars.”
This is the fourth time in franchise history that the Cavs have earned three NBA All-Star selections, with the times being in 1989, 1993, and 2017.
