The Cleveland Cavaliers have just made a huge decision that will have a significant impact on Tacko Fall’s future not only with the Cavs, but in the NBA as well. According to reports, the 7-foot-3 fan favorite has done enough to earn a new deal with the team.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania was one of the first to report that the Cavs had decided to convert Fall’s deal to a more permanent one:
Fall signed with the Cavs in September to join the squad for training camp. There was no certainty that he was going to make the cut, especially considering how there appears to be an evident log jam at the big man spot for Cleveland.
Nevertheless, Fall has been able to impress the Cavs coaching staff during his time with the team and this has resulted in a two-way deal for the 25-year-old.
Prior to joining the Cavs, Fall spent the past two seasons with the Boston Celtics. Despite being a well-loved figure among fans, Fall was never able to establish himself as a regular part of coach Brad Stevens’ rotation. The Celtics decided against signing Tacko to a new deal in the offseason, which allowed Cleveland to pounce.
Aside from Fall, the Cavs have also signed RJ Nembhard to a two-way deal, while also cutting three players ahead of Tuesday’s season tip-off:
It’s going to be an interesting season ahead for the Cavs, and Fall’s situation is also going to be worth monitoring. Could he actually earn himself significant minutes in coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s system? We’ll all just have to wait and see.
