NBA free agency is in full swing as teams across the league are making big and minor moves. For the Cleveland Cavaliers, there seems to be some trade interest in their star players, but for now, that is strictly speculation. The front office was able to retain Ricky Rubio, but it sounds like the organization added another rotational point guard to the roster.
According to Shams Charania, the Cavs are signing veteran point guard Raul Neto to the roster. This is a decent signing for Cleveland, as the team now has a plethora of talented guards on the roster. With Darius Garland and Collin Sexton leading the way, Rubio and Neto will likely serve as the main backup options.
This will be Raul Neto’s fourth team in his career. He’s been a decent rotational option so far and should play that role perfectly for the Cavs. Last year, the veteran guard averaged 7.5 points and a career-high 3.1 assists per game, while shooting a .463 shooting percentage from the field. Neto brings experience and consistency off the bench that hopefully improves the backcourt.
The front office has done a great job in building this team after LeBron James’ departure. Cleveland has a solid young core with Kevin Love leading the way as a veteran for the young stars to lean on. As long as these guys develop, the Cavs should continue improving. If that’s the case, we could see this organization back in the playoffs sooner, rather than later.
Although this is a minor signing, it’s one Cavs fans can get excited about. Look for Raul Neto to make an impact in Cleveland in the 2022-23 season.
