The Cleveland Cavaliers are holding tight to the second spot in the Eastern Conference but are just ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks. It has been a surprising season for the Cavs. With the season about to turn to March and things will get tighter the Cavs have added some guard depth. The Cavs are signing Sharife Cooper to a 10-day contract, per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.
‘The Cleveland Cavaliers are signing guard Sharife Cooper to a 10-day contract, league sources told @hoopshype.’
Cooper has bounced around the NBA and G League quite a bit since being drafted in the 2nd round of the 2021 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Cooper played just 13 games in the NBA with the Hawks and had a very minimal role.
Cooper has spent the past couple of seasons with the Cleveland Charge, the Cavs G League affiliate. This season, Cooper is averaging 18.6 PPG in 19 games and he averaged 21.3 PPG last season for the Charge. Before that, he was with the College Park Skyhawks.
However, Cooper has been impressive with the Charge and the Cavs are hoping that talent can translate as he inks a 10-day contract.
It will be worth monitoring to see how much playing time Cooper gets on this 10-day deal. The Cavs next face the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday and the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. If Cooper earns minutes and plays well during this 10-day deal, he could end up signing another one to stick around in the NBA for a little while longer.
