Newly-acquired shooting guard Alec Burks is primed to make his debut for the Cavs in Friday night’s road game against the Boston Celtics, according to a report from Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
The Cavs acquired Burks and two future second round draft picks from the Utah Jazz in exchange for guard Kyle Korver, Cavs General Manager Koby Altman officially announced on Thursday. According to the team’s press release, the two draft picks that Cleveland will receive in this deal are Utah’s own 2020 second round pick and a 2021 second round pick from the Washington Wizards via the Jazz.
“Alec is a young vet that’s versatile and talented,” Altman said of Burks. “We welcome him to Cleveland and we’re looking forward to him getting started with us soon.”
Alec Burks, now 27 years of age, appeared in 17 games for the Jazz this season, racking up averages of 8.4 points on 41.2 percent shooting from the field (37.2 percent from beyond the arc), 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 15.8 minutes per outing.
A solid scorer, Burks has posted double digits in the scoring column on six occasions this season, including a season-high 22 points in 27 minutes on Nov. 5 versus the Toronto Raptors. Now in his his ninth season of NBA service, the former 12th overall pick holds career averages of 9.6 points on 42.5 percent shooting from the field (35.5 percent from downtown), 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
Friday night’s Cavs-Celtics game is scheduled to tip inside TD Garden at 7:00 p.m. EST with FOX Sports Ohio having live broadcast coverage.
