Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Alec Burks says he doesn’t believe in trade rumors until a trade actually happens.
Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reported on Tuesday the Cavs and Houston Rockets have discussed a deal that would bring veteran point guard Brandon Knight and the Rockets’ first-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Burks.
“I don’t believe in rumors until something happens,” Burks said after the Cavs’ loss to Boston on Tuesday. “If nothing happens then I’m not going nowhere. If something happens, it happens. I enjoy my time here and hopefully it keeps going.”
The Cavs acquired Alec Burks from the Utah Jazz in the Kyle Korver trade, but with Cleveland rebuilding, it makes sense to send Burks to a contender where his services will be better used.
In 50 games this season with Cleveland and Utah, Burks is averaging 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 40.0 percent from the field, 37.8 percent from beyond the arc and 82.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Burks is making $11,286,515 this season. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the season ends.
The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 7, so if Houston and Cleveland want to get this deal done, they better act quickly.
