The Cleveland Cavaliers have a good problem on their hands. They have a roster full of young talent, and rising fourth-year forward Evan Mobley is no exception. Mobley’s growth and bright future earned him a five-year, $269 million contract with the Cavs. However, fans on social media are split about the news.
One user noted how Evan Mobley’s steady production and capacity for improvement are worth the Cavs’ contract investment.
“Now you like that if you are a fan of Cleveland, mainly because this young man gives you 16 and 10 at the power forward position nevermind the fact that he just turned 23 years old. You only hope he continues to develop as an offensive threat,” the fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Others agreed with the fan.
“Good contract. He’s very underrated with a bright future,” one fan commented.
“Great move. He’s a franchise player,” another fan added.
However, others were critical of Mobley’s extension.
“That is a nasty overpay, but they don’t get a choice can’t blame them,” one fan claimed.
“$70 million a year for Evan Mobley is insanity,” another user wrote.
The Cavs’ deal with Mobley is quite lucrative. Yet, the team has confidence he can grow into a star. Mobley earned First-Team All-Defensive honors and was third in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022. In addition, he is one of four players with 300 blocks and 150 steals since he entered the league, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Anthony Davis, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Rudy Gobert are the others.
Mobley has averaged 16.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in 12 NBA playoff games. He has averaged similar numbers during the regular season. As fans mentioned, Mobley is just 23 years old and has plenty of room to grow as a versatile two-way player.
It will be exciting to watch Evan Mobley continue to grow into a star role with the Cavs after his big contract move.
