Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and Cavs head coach JB Bickerstaff will coach at the 19th edition of Basketball Without Borders Africa, according to a Tuesday tweet from Right Down Euclid Editor-in-Chief Evan Dammarell.

“#Cavs’ J.B. Bickerstaff and Darius Garland will be coaching 80 of the top high-school-age prospects from across Africa as part of the 19th edition of Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Africa, which will be held Friday, July 28 – Monday, July 31,” wrote Dammarell.

The event gives 80 boys and girls from more than 25 African countries a chance to learn from various current and former NBA, WNBA and FIBA players and coaches, according to a Tuesday release from NBA.com. Garland will be joined by Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga and Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs.

Bickerstaff, Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown, former Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey, Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham and former Kings head coach Dave Joerger make up the current and former NBA coaches who will work as Basketball Without Borders Africa 2023 coaches. Former Detroit Shock and Indiana Fever forward Astou Ndiaye, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame forward Sheryl Swoopes, two-time WNBA champion forward Taj McWilliams-Franklin and former Los Angeles Sparks center Clarisse Machanguana will make up the former WNBA players who will work as BWB Africa 2023 coaches.

Cavs center Jarrett Allen coached in the Basketball Without Borders Asia camp in 2022. He joined Dallas Mavericks guard Josh Green, then-Phoenix Suns forward Cameron Johnson and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White as they took to Canberra, Australia to coach 60 of the top boys and girls prospects from more than 15 countries.

“I’ve been trying to come here to BWB for a while, but things just never lined up,” Allen told Basketball News in 2022. “I just liked the idea of the world-life travel, the connecting basketball globally, expanding the NBA globally. I just think it’s a great opportunity to share the game.”
