In the days following Derrick Rose‘s decision to join the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year, $2.1 million, his new teammate LeBron James has invited him to do workouts in Las Vegas.
These workouts have reportedly included a few assistant coaches to help out including Damon Jones. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Jones is currently holding some intense sessions.
It was a stacked cast of participants in the workout summit that featured along with Rose other highly talented guards in the league such as Oklahoma City Thunder point Russell Westbrook, Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul, and Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe.
James is likely trying to set the table of expectations from what Rose should expect in his first season with the Cavaliers. The 32-year-old is hoping to make a strong impression on the former All-Star of what’s to come this upcoming year.
The intensity may be ramped even more so due to the situation surrounding Kyrie Irving’s trade request from Cleveland. This has pushed the attention from the team away from revamping to better compete against the Golden State Warriors to the lingering dysfunction within the franchise.
The fact that James is holding this type of workout at this point in the offseason could be a strong demonstration of his state of mind heading into his 15th season in the league.
