Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Dylan Windler is slowly progressing from his leg injury that he suffered prior to training camp.
According to Kelsey Russo of The Athletic, the 23-year old may start getting in some on-court reps soon. Whether Windler will debut with the Cavs or with the Canton Charge depends on how his leg responds to the increases workload.
Sources told The Athletic that Dylan Windler is slowly moving toward on-court activities and seeing how he handles the workload.
Before Windler was shut down on Dec. 13, Windler went down to the Cavs’ G League affiliate, the Canton Charge. He played in two games with the Charge before he experienced the soreness that resulted in him being shut down.
Sources said his response to the increased workload would determine if he would see time with the Charge or stay with the Cavs.
Beilein addressed Windler’s progress in his pregame news conference and said they are still being cautious if there is any soreness with the injury. He said Windler played three-on-three on Friday with no restrictions.
The Cavaliers took Windler with the 26th overall pick in last June’s NBA draft.
Windler had a standout four-year college career with the Belmont Bruins. At Belmont, e became a full-time starter in three seasons. In his senior year, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged 21.3 points while shooting 54 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from long-distance. He also averaged 10.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and made three triples per game.
With the Cavaliers in full rebuild mode, Windler could definitely see some playing time. Especially considering that the Cavs invested a first round pick on him. Windler should bring in a steady outside threat and a reliable playmaker as well.
