In February, news broke stating that the NBA will start using patches from various companies on their team jerseys, similar to other professional sports (see NFL and MLS).
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers will wear a Goodyear patch on their game jerseys, starting next season. Per NBA rules, the patch will be sewn on the front left of the jersey.
Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports that the jerseys with patches will not be for sale through the NBA store. However, teams can still elect to sell them through their own retail stores.
Kevin Kleps, assistant editor at Crains Cleveland, reports that Nike will be taking over all of the NBA’s uniforms next season for a three-year pilot program.
