This year’s NBA trade deadline has come and gone. Now, teams across the association are beginning to explore their options in the post-deadline market, including the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
Over the past few weeks, the Cavs, who are known to be seeking talent at various positions, have invited several players to town for workouts sessions. The Cavs haven’t pulled the trigger on any deals yet, but multiple sources are reporting that the champs are keeping close tabs on Dallas Mavericks point guard, Deron Williams.

Williams, 32, holds career averages of 16.8 points, 8.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 34.8 minutes per game. The former number three overall selection (Utah Jazz) in the 2005 NBA Draft has received interest from quite a few teams — and for good reason. Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports and The Vertical reports that the Mavericks have began discussing a contract buy-out with Williams.

Williams is currently making $9 million this season after signing one-year deal to return to the Mavs during the offseason. ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Dallas is willing to pay off the remaining portion of his deal if he indeed wants to become a free agent.
