It seems like the NBA world is at a standstill after finding out Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. To some degree, there is not much else to discuss, making it difficult for writers such as myself to deviate from this topic. But on another note, no one would expect an All-Star point guard who made three consecutive NBA Finals appearances to be dissatisfied with his position.
After taking in what every media outlet has had to say so far, it seems like the narrative involves Irving tired of playing second fiddle to NBA icon LeBron James. It’s honestly hard to speculate what Kyrie’s thoughts are exactly up to this point, so hard that not even his own teammates are on the same page as him.
“Sure, we’ve had our fair share of moments and kind of chaotic times, and that’s obviously been well documented, but at the same time we’ve had a lot of joy,” a Cavaliers player told ESPN. “I hope Kyrie is with us, that’s all I got to say. At the end of the day, we’re pretty f—ing good.”
One can only hope their trustee point guard is riding the same wave as the rest of the team. After all, the Cavs organization has no obligation to trade Irving, as he has two more years on his contract. But Irving already showing lack of passion for the city of Cleveland may dishearten them from keeping him around.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors are chillin’ right now!
