The Cleveland Cavaliers made some moves before the trade deadline, acquiring De’Andre Hunter from the Atlanta Hawks for Caris LeVert and Georges Niang. It was a solid pickup for the Cavs, as Hunter is the frontrunner for Sixth Man of the Year and his improved play helped the Hawks this season.
Cavs fans seem to be excited about the move, and Hunter already has some familiarity with some of the players on the team, including Ty Jerome. The two played college basketball together at the University of Virginia and won a national championship together in 2019. Both are playing some good basketball this year, and they should be able to lead the Cavs down a deep playoff run.
On social media, fans are already sharing their thoughts about the trade.
“Hunter may be exactly what the Cavs needed,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Deandre hunter to the cavs is honestly a top 5 trade,” another user wrote.
Hunter will most likely slot in at the starting three spot for the Cavs and will bring length and shooting to a team that already possesses those things. Throughout Hunter’s career, he’s been known as a solid defender and can keep his man in front of him while also having a little shot creation to where he can get to his mid-range shot.
This season with the Hawks, he’d been very reliable as a catch-and-shoot player, and his ability to shoot over defenders is a plus. With Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell in the backcourt, he shouldn’t have to do much shot creating, and their drive-and-kick ability should be able to get Hunter some easy shots.
The Cavs realized that this was the window for them to go all-in, and acquiring Hunter should give them a better chance of contending for an NBA title.
