Will the Cleveland Cavaliers trade Donovan Mitchell? Rumors have begun to circulate amid Cleveland’s mediocre 13-12 start to the 2023-24 season. However, Mitchell is not expected to be traded prior to the deadline, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
A lot can change in the next few months. Perhaps the Cavs will embark upon a winning streak and climb back into serious contention. At the moment, however, Cleveland has much uncertainty on the roster.
It was recently revealed that Darius Garland will miss several months due to an injury, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Garland’s expected absence, along with Cleveland’s struggles, will only add more fuel to Mitchell trade rumors.
Donovan Mitchell’s 2023-24 season
Mitchell, who’s been an All-Star in four consecutive seasons, is currently averaging 27.6 points per game on 45.5 percent field goal and 34.5 percent three-point shooting. He’s also recording 5.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per contest.
Mitchell is one of the best players in the NBA. The Cavs would instantly receive no shortage of interest if they made Mitchell available ahead of the trade deadline. Perhaps Cleveland will consider a Mitchell trade if the Cavs start to trend in a negative direction.
Cleveland’s performance over the next few weeks will go a long way into determining their trade deadline strategy. Mitchell is expected to remain with the Cavs at the moment, however.
Following a recent loss to the Boston Celtics, Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs will attempt to bounce back on Saturday night in a clash against the Atlanta Hawks.
We will continue to monitor and provide updates on Mitchell and the Cavaliers as they are made available.
