Will the Cleveland Cavaliers make any moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline? Donovan Mitchell was mentioned in trade rumors early in the season, while Jarrett Allen has also been discussed as a potential trade candidate. However, Cleveland has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA over the past few weeks and they will likely hold onto their stars. The Cavs may, however, look to add guard depth following the Ricky Rubio buyout.

“Keep an eye on Cleveland sniffing around for reserve guards, sources said, after buying out Ricky Rubio,” Jake Fischer recently wrote for Yahoo Sports.

Cavs’ potential NBA trade deadline plans

Cleveland is in an interesting position ahead of the trade deadline. They are playing well despite dealing with a number of injury concerns, and will receive upgrades once certain players return. The Cavs are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 26-16 record, so it is clear that this team is a contender.

With that being said, the Cavs have to truly ask themselves if they feel that they can seriously compete with the top teams, the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers, in a playoff series.

If the answer is “no” to that question, then Cleveland should look into making a major splash ahead of the trade deadline. If the Cavs are confident enough in their current roster, though, then perhaps adding just a role player or two will suffice.

The Celtics have been incredible all season long. Milwaukee has found ways to win despite their lackluster defensive effort. Joel Embiid has the 76ers sitting in a good position once again. There are other teams to worry about in the East as well, but Boston, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia are the top contenders.

Anything is possible in the playoffs, though. The Cavs could pull off multiple upsets on their way to the NBA Finals. It goes without saying, but that would be easier said than done. Nevertheless, Cleveland is playing a confident brand of basketball right now.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates on the Cavs ahead of the trade deadline as they are made available.
