LeBron James thanks Goodyear with surprise visit

On Tuesday, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James made a surprise visit to Goodyear’s corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio.

“This is my first time ever touring Goodyear,” James said in the 59-second Facebook video that was put together from his visit. “Seeing the people that put in the hard work and dedication every single day to make sure this company continues to be one of the greatest in the world — it’s truly humbling.”

According to Jim Mackinnon of the Akron Beacon Journal, James made the trip to the famous tire maker to thank their employees, who actively supports The LeBron James Family Foundation through volunteering and other means.

“The surprise was LeBron’s visit,” Goodyear spokesman Keith Price told the Akron Beacon Journal.

Mackinnon reports that 20 Goodyear employees, who were selected for their community support and work performance, were gathered in a fifth floor board room. All of a sudden, the King walks in, flashes a smile, and begins shaking hands with nearly everyone in attendance, including Goodyear Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rich Kramer.

“It’s just very humbling, man. Just being a kid from Akron, you never think you’ll get the opportunity to be in a position to be around successful people like this,” James said in a later interview. “It means a lot to me, knowing I’m from Akron, and Goodyear representing Akron. It’s a pride thing.”

“When you’re from the Midwest, man, nothing is ever given to us,” James continued. “Everything is kind of earned. I know it sounds like a slogan because we turned it into that, but it’s true. To be here with the workers today … it’s very humbling. A shoutout to Goodyear, a shoutout to Akron, Ohio.”
