After being projected as the greatest high school player ever and a-once-in-a-generation talent, it was only natural that LeBron James skip college and jump to the NBA. What people don’t know, however, is that James has always had the desire to go back and one day and earn a college degree.

After being heavily involved with the University of Akron to send children through college, as well as his IPROMISE program already being a huge success, LeBron plans on continuing to help others as his career progresses.

The superstar small forward has always had strong links and love for Ohio State University, so needless to say, he’s never far from the Buckeyes and the education system. In fact three years ago, James stated if he had gone to college for one year, he would have definitely chosen Ohio State:

“I promise, I say this all the time — if I had one year of college, I would have ended up here,” James said.

His passion and ties with the state of Ohio run much deeper than just basketball, and James went on to say he always wears the colors with pride.

“No matter where I go in the world, no matter where it is, I will always rock Ohio State colors.”

This no doubt makes everyone in the city of Cleveland and state of Ohio proud that their favorite son, given the chance, would not only choose to finish his education, but do so in the same state he grew up in.

After spending $41 million to send over 1,100 children through college, James confirmed that finishing school and earning a degree is also in his future down the road. Recently in an interview with Ohio.com, LeBron stated he already has plans to do just that, and according to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, he has already chosen a university.

“I’m signed up at the University of Akron for whenever I’m able to get a little bit of down time,” James said. “That’s always been a conversation that took place — to take some college courses, take some classes. So right now I just do a lot of reading, book reading, and obviously I’m around some really good people that I kind of take their knowledge and sort it into my mind.”

When he attends, James already knows the subject that will intrigue him the most.

“I love world history, just the history of how everything was put together. I love that part of things, and people that founded the world, made this world such a beautiful place. I’m pretty fond of that,” James said. “I love when I go around, obviously every summer traveling places, and it’s kind of unique to see how we kind of built things. Who kind of ruled places at certain points of time. It’s pretty cool.”

LeBron has achieved just about everything imaginable on the basketball court, and will continue to strive for greatness off the court as well. With his unbelievably intense summer regime every offseason, James will likely tackle his studies when he calls it a day on his NBA career. He will have to settle for reading his favorite books for now, but down the road, the King will mark another item on his to-do list.
