By now, most Cavaliers fans have heard the news: David Griffin will no longer be serving as the team’s general manager.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert released an official statement earlier this evening, thanking Griffin for his dedicated service in his three-year stint. After all, “Griff,” as Cavs fans came to know him by, is the man who pulled the strings that brought Cleveland their first championship in 52 years.
Gilbert’s decision to part ways with Griffin came as a shock to most basketball aficionados, including the Cavaliers faithful. According to multiple reports, LeBron James was in the camp that believed Griffin should be offered a new contract or extension.
Obviously, that won’t be happening anymore, but the King still took the time to post an appreciative message to his former GM on Twitter.
Who will the Cavs bring in at general manager now, you ask? Initial reports are indicating that Chauncey Billups could be a top candidate for the job. Whether or not that deal comes to fruition is yet to be seen. For now, everyone will have to wait and see how this story plays out.
