J.R. Smith says Cavs, if they get things right, couldn’t be beaten by Warriors or ’96 Bulls

J.R. Smith’s ‘let it fly’ motto speaks a lot about his confidence, and that trait was in full display after Saturday’s practice.

Speaking to reporters, Smith doesn’t care if the Cavaliers lost Game 1 of the NBA Finals to the Warriors, as he knows what his team is capable of — which is quite tall of an expectation.

“Watching basketball throughout the course of the season, you obviously know they’re very good. But one thing about us, it’s all about us. If we take care of what we’re supposed to take care of, it doesn’t matter if it’s the ’96 Bulls, it doesn’t matter. We would win. We just gotta worry about us, understand that no matter what they do, if we do what we’re supposed to do, they can’t beat us.”

Obviously, it is easier said than done. But if the Cavaliers indeed take care of the ball, play more physical, and be more assertive in the paint while continuing to control their opponents’ shooting percentage, they might just take Game 2 and home-court advantage away from the streaking Warriors.

That is one good step towards eventually proving that Smith’s claim isn’t farfetched at all.
