Cleveland Cavaliers forward Peyton Watson will have a fresh start after spending four years with the Denver Nuggets. He will probably miss a lot of people in Mile High City, particularly Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon.

Watson and Gordon developed a close relationship in Denver, with the latter helping the former adjust to the rigors of the NBA.

The 24-year-old Watson left the Nuggets via a sign-and-trade deal and signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Cavaliers. When asked about it, the 30-year-old Gordon expressed his support for the next chapter of his former teammate.

“That’s my dog. It’s deeper than basketball with Peyton and me. Our family members go to the same church. Peyton is like my brother. Happy for him, the situation that he’s in. Obviously, we would have loved to have him. But it worked out the way that it was supposed to,” said the veteran forward in the video posted by DNVR Nuggets’ Harrison Wind.

Watson returned the love, posting a heartfelt message on X.

“Salt of the earth! Can’t say how grateful I am for the brotherhood me and AG have,” wrote the young forward.

He is coming off a breakout campaign, averaging career-highs of 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 29.6 minutes on top of 1.1 blocks. He was limited to 54 games because of a hamstring injury and a cautious approach by his camp ahead of free agency.

Watson had long discussions with the Nuggets regarding his contract extension, but the team failed to meet his salary demand due to financial constraints.

He chose the Cavaliers after also being linked to the Atlanta Hawks, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Portland Trail Blazers.
