Peyton Watson finally got his first non-preseason action as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He made his Cavs debut Thursday against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Sent to the Cavs by the Denver Nuggets via a five-team trade, Watson had to earn his first made basket in Cleveland threads. During the third period of the Sixers game, the former UCLA Bruins star beat Philadelphia big man Joel Embiid off the dribble before a tough finish at the basket amid the challenge of the former NBA Most Valuable Player.

Unfortunately for Watson, his Cavs debut didn’t have a good ending. Despite holding a lead as big as 29 points, Cleveland suffered a 114-106 loss to Tyrese Maxey and company. The Cavs had a total meltdown in the second half, where the Sixers took over the pace and held Cleveland to just 36.8 percent shooting from the field.

Watson wasn’t able to contribute much for Cleveland, scoring eight points on 2-for-7 shooting from the field with two assists, two steals, a block and a rebound, but he also turned the ball over five times and had a plus-minus of minus-19 — the worst among all Cavs starters.

Donovan Mitchell led all Cavs scorers with 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Evan Mobley contributed 18 points and eight boards.

Nevertheless, it was just the first game of the season. The Cavs will take another shot at getting win No. 1 on Saturday, when they make their home season opener against the Brooklyn Nets at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
