The 2026-27 Cleveland Cavs will conduct a seven-day training camp overseas in Spain ahead of the upcoming season. As the Cavs build off reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, they’ll begin their journey in Europe before returning for the preseason.

Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman confirmed the trip, per Basketnews.com.

“Training camp is where the foundation for a season is built, and The Embassy provides our players, coaches and staff with an exceptional environment to begin that work,” Altman said.

“The facility has established itself as a destination for elite basketball talent and performance, and having Jose Calderon, who has been instrumental in its development, as part of our organization makes this an especially unique opportunity for our team.”

Jose Calderon, who was part of the Cavs’ last trip to the NBA Finals during the 2017-18 season, is an advisor for the team. His professional career started in his home country of Spain.

Brian Windhorst details Cavs veteran James Harden’s sacrifice

In hopes of recruiting Peyton Watson, Cavs’ James Harden reportedly took less money via free agency. The Cavs completed a sign-and-trade with the Nuggets for Watson, who agreed to a four-year, $88 million extension after the deal.

Harden was in communication with the Cavs front office before the blockbuster trade, which helped the Cavs complete the deal due to his willingness to take a reduced offer, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

“James Harden was willing to opt out of that contract and sit around all summer, and basically pick up the phone whenever the Cavs called and say, ‘Yeah, I’ll go down a little farther. I’ll go down a little farther,’” Windhorst said. “So as the Cavs made various moves, Harden was not only willing to reduce his salary, but he was willing to recruit. He—from what I understand—he recruited Peyton Watson.”

Harden eventually agreed to a three-year, $97 million extension to stay with the Cavs amidst their championship window. The 2026-27 season will be his first full season with the Cavs, which will begin overseas.
