Cedi Osman is excited to play with LeBron James
Earlier this week, the Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to the terms of a three-year, $8.5 million dollar deal with Euroleague star Cedi Osman. The Cavs have been watching the 6-8 Turkish Cup winner for three years. Now, at 22 years of age, “Jedi,” as he is known, finally has a chance to play in the NBA.
In a recent interview with Turkish sports outlet NTVSpor, Osman said he is happy to be playing for a team who believes in his talent and potential.
“They believe in me and expect a lot. It will be a great responsibility, but I am happy that they are confident in me,” Osman tells dailysabah.com.
Osman, a player who can run at both shooting guard and small forward, averaged 7.1 points on 34.5 shooting from beyond the arc and 2.8 rebounds for Anadolu Efes last season. There is no doubt he’ll be looking to make an immediate impact for the Cavs off the bench this season. But more than anything, the former second-round pick is simply thrilled to play with Cleveland’s Big Three. In fact, he’s calling the opportunity “a dream come true.”
“I am excited to play on the same team as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love,” Osman said. “They expect me to contribute greatly to defense. I cannot wait to pass the ball to the star players, it is a dream come true.”
Not familiar with Osman’s game? That’s alright. Maybe a few highlight clips are needed to display his skill-set. A quick release, great court vision, and savvy defense are just a few elements of his game.
After the addition of Osman, the Cavaliers have 14 players under contract, leaving them with one open roster spot and a pair of two-way contracts for any G League players that might catch their eye. Other moves the Cavs have made since the start of this year’s free agency started include the re-signing of sharpshooter Kyle Korver and the acquisitions of point guard Jose Calderon and forward Jeff Green.
