When it comes to classic footage of NBA players, some might be hard to find. In the following throw-back clip from Reddit user gtisgreatandunited, you’ll witness a teenage LeBron James answering a myriad of questions, including those regarding his work ethic, meeting Michael Jordan, and fan attendance at his high school games.

“What was it like meeting Michael Jordan?” a reporter asked James as he was seated in the St. Vincent – St. Mary’s High School locker room.

“It was great,” James replied. “For me to meet Michael Jordan, it was like… I think it was better than meeting the president.”

As most hoops fans know by now, James, now 33 years of age and in his 15th season of NBA service, is a native of Akron, Ohio. Born under difficult circumstances, he went on to become one of the greatest athletes this world has ever known, inspiring millions of people around the globe.

James’ work ethic came at a young age, as evident in his next response.

“What did it take for you to get to playing at the level you’re at right now?” the reporter asked James.

“A lot of hard work,” James replied as he pulled a practice jersey over his head. “A lot of hard work and determination. I was born with God-given talent, but I had to keep working at it. If I didn’t keep working at it, there’s somebody out there that’s gonna catch me.”

In those days, the Fighting Irish of SVSM played a lot of games at Akron University — a fact that James wasn’t a fan of.

“Do you wish you could play more games at St. V instead of Akron U,” the reporter asked James.

“Oh yeah,” James said with a nod. “I wish we had no games at Akron U. and we played them all here (at SVSM). The reason why is because playing here you’ve got the fans right on you. They’re right on the floor.”

James has been through his fair share of ups and downs in life, but the love he has for the city of Akron and his alma mater are unwavering.
