All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas has continued to make steady progress in his recovery from his hip injury over the last several weeks.

This has now led to Thomas participating in pregame warmups prior to Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bulls.

This is another encouraging sign that demonstrates just how close Thomas is to finally make his debut with the Cavaliers this season. It also comes a few hours after he was assigned to the team’s G-League affiliate, Canton Charge, in order to get some practice time before he is cleared to come back.

Thomas has been long expected to make his return to the court sometime in the first week of January. However, his participation in pregame warmups on Thursday night makes it more clear that he is almost ready to play despite already being declared out for the Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors. He has also yet to experience any sort of setback with the rehab over the last couple of months.

Once Thomas does return, the Cavaliers will likely ease him back into the fold limiting his minutes over his first couple of weeks depending on how his body responds to the workload. He has yet to play in an NBA game since late May in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
