There’s some belief around the league that the Cleveland Cavaliers could look to trade Andre Drummond as early as this summer, according to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report. The Cavs acquired Drummond from the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline.

He has a player option for next season worth $28.8 million and he’s expected to pick it up, no matter what team he’s on:

There’s some belief around the league that the Cavaliers could look to flip Drummond as early as this summer.

“I don’t think [Drummond and the Cavs] will last long,” one former NBA general manager said. “I could see them trading him to a team this summer if he agrees to pick up his option. They could also do a sign-and-trade if he agrees to a new long-term deal. I don’t think he’ll be in Cleveland for long.”

Drummond is putting up 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in two games so far with the Cavs. Cleveland lost to the Los Angeles Clippers in Drummond’s debut, but rebounded by defeating the Atlanta Hawks.

The Cavs are 14-40 on the season. They are in 15th place in the Eastern Conference standings and likely won’t make the playoffs for the second straight season.

Drummond puts up really good numbers, but anyone who watched him in Detroit knows he just doesn’t impact winning.
