Throughout much of this offseason, there has been a growing cloud of uncertainty about LeBron James long-term future with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Another major wrinkle has been added as a source close to NBA Insider and former ESPN Draft expert Chris Sheridan has told him “LeBron James will 100% be leaving Cleveland” after this year.
Up to this point, there had been no hint that James was leaning toward this being his mind frame in regards to the 2017-18 season. Since returning to the Cavaliers back in the summer of 2014, he has continued to publicly voice his strong commitment to the franchise.
That said, there could be something said about his deteriorating relationship with team owner Dan Gilbert. Things have only worsened over the last few months that became a prominent topic of discussion after Gilbert decided to part ways with general manager David Griffin, who James had developed a strong relationship with over the last three seasons.
This has become a sticking in the weeks that followed especially with Kyrie Irving’s trade request becoming public a few weeks ago that has only created more uncertainty around the franchise. For the time being, this could just be some background noise that will bring more scrutiny to the upcoming season.
