According to reports, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love does not appear to be on his way out of Cleveland this summer. That is unless a huge offer is placed on the table for the five-time All-Star. In that case, the Cavs will reportedly explore the possibility of offloading the 29-year-old.
In his piece for Cleveland.com, Terry Pluto shared his conversation with a prominent NBA executive that has insider knowledge on the Cavs situation.
“Unless they get blown away by an offer, I think they’ll open the season with Love,” confirmed the anonymous source.
The departure of LeBron James has left the Cavs in rebuild mode, and it would not be a surprise if the team ends up tanking this season. This is pretty much the same scenario they were left with when James jumped ship eight years ago.
It would then make sense to trade Love, as losing a championship-caliber player would absolutely improve the team’s chances of ending up with a lottery pick for the 2019 NBA Draft. Getting one or two future draft picks in return would be the ideal scenario for the Cavaliers who are now looking to the future.
Love will be entering the fourth year of his five-year deal and is slated to earn close to $50 million over the next couple of seasons. That is indeed a lot of money, but provided that he does not sustain any serious injuries, Love is still one of the premier big men in the game and will still be worth every penny.
